2006 Illinois Superstate Concert Band Festival

Congratulations to the McCracken Middle School Symphonic Band for being selected to perform at the 2006 University of Illinois Superstate Concert Band Festival. This year’s festival will take place on Friday, May 5 (for middle school and small high school) and Saturday, May 6 (for medium and large high schools). This marks the 7th time in the last 8 years the McCracken Middle School Symphonic Band has been invited to perform.

Adjudicators for this years Superstate Festival are:

Col. Dennis Layendecker-United States Air Force Band-Washington D.C.

District 73.5 Fine Arts Night

Wednesday, March 22, 2006 is the annual District 73.5 Fine Arts Night from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The Symphonic Band will be performing at approximately 7:40 PM in the Middleton Gym following the 7th and 8th Grade Swing Choirs and the Middleton Chorus.

The Symphonic Band will be performing:

Rough Riders - Karl King
Belle Qui Tiens Ma Vie - Thoinot Arbeau, arranged by Bob Margolis

The Rainbow Connection - arranged by John Moss

Karen Wylie Golden Apple Award Winner!

Congratulations to Karen Wylie, kindergarden teacher at Meyer Elementary School, for being selected as a winner of the prestigious Golden Apple Award.

Ms. Wylie has taught at almost every grade level—kindergarten through fifth grade, high school and even adult education. This is her sixteenth year teaching in the district. Prior to this, she taught in the Chicago Public Schools and before that she worked in adult education in the Boston area. She also taught E.S.L. in Taiwan.

IGSMA District 7 Contest Results

Congratulations to the McCracken Middle School Symphonic Band who received a Division One (superior) rating at the Illinois Grade School Music Association District 7 Organization Contest held at Jackson Middle School in Villa Park.

The Symphonic Band, under the guest direction of Don Owens (Northwestern University, retired), received a perfect score from all three adjudicators.

The McCracken Middle School 7th Grade Swing Choir and 8th Grade Swing Choir also received Division One ratings. All three groups will perform at the IGSMA State Festival on April 28 & 29 which will be hosted at McCracken Middle School.

IGMSA District 7 Contest

Best of luck to the McCracken Symphonic Band, 7th Grade Swing Choir, and 8th Grade Swing Choir as they prepare for the IGSMA District Contest on March 11. Permission slips have already been sent home and should be returned by Tuesday, March 7.
